For dusting off the cobwebs of your environment, your mind, your body, and your heart.
- Turn off the appliances, the television, the laundry machine, and anything else that causes you unnecessary background noise, if you can help it.
- Take an egg shaker (the ones often sold at your local music store) and shake it all over your body as though it were a bar of soap.
- Try to shake it in different rhythmic patterns–patterns that seem consistent, patterns that seem wacky and chaotic, and everything in between at your own discretion and direction!
- Imagine the static and the rain-like pitter-patter as all of the typical background noice you might hear at home, all of it harnessed in your hand for you to redefine to your ear’s desire and to recalibrate to your psyche’s nourishment.
- If you do not have the money or resources for an egg shaker, a shaker of salt from your kitchen cabinet works just as well. (Just remember to keep the cover closed if you want an unsalted environment, unless you’re into that sort of thing–no judgements lol.)
- If you do not have a shaker of salt either, that’s okay! Ball up your fists, shake them all around, and make psshes and hisses with your mouth to simulate your own.
- For another style of glee, try shaking it out to the tune of your favorite song (on a stereo system, on your headphones, or for an extra challenge, inside your own head).
- Have fun.
